Unified
Communications benefits small, medium businesses
Recently I was talking with friends and we began to
laugh about how phones, their use and related costs
had changed since we were kids. The kids in the group
looked at some of us strangely as we reflected on
party-lines, knowing your operator’s name, and
3-digit or 4-digit phone numbers with an exchange
in front (“Evergreen-314, please”).
When we talked about avoiding payment for a long distance
call by placing a person-to-person call to ourselves
when we arrived at our destination, as a signal to
our parents that we had arrived safely, the kids shook
their heads in disbelief. More>>
After
Hours: Moyer, 'Snaggers' work overtime to aid community
Thirty years ago, Greg Moyer fell into a second career.
Moyer, a public school administrator applying for
a university fellowship, was soliciting recommendations
when the praise of a school board president –
a steel company executive by day – caught his
attention: We'd hire him.
Moyer took him up on the offer, transitioning from
education to human resources.
"The opportunity to influence, inspire and intrigue
students is something I'll never forget," said
Moyer, who spent six years in education. "To
go to work every day and know that you could make
a difference in your community was something I really
enjoyed." More>>

Innsbrook
Rotarian of the Month Lit Maxwell
Lit Maxwell is a man with a big heart
who loves to read. In fact his love for reading turned
into a career back in 1971 when he started with the
University of Richmond as their business librarian.
When Lit joined the Innsbrook Rotary Club years ago
he was asked to be in charge of the clubs literacy
works. After talking with a neighbor of his who was
a staff member of the READ Center, Lit recognized
a lot of good that could be done by the Rotary. The
READ Center stands for Reading and Education for Adult
Development and was founded by the Literacy Council
of Metropolitan Richmond in 1982 by Altrusa, International
Richmond, Inc., a professional women’s business
service club. More>>
